BlueWater is a subsidiary of an Australian asset management group named Babcock and Brown. They are a large international wind energy developer.
What is the BlueWater Wind Farm?
The BlueWater farm is scheduled to be an electricity generating Wind Mill Park constructed approximately 13 miles off the coast of Rehoboth Beach Delaware.
How many Wind Mills will be in place?
The final Agreement signed between Delmarva Power & Light and BlueWater calls for 55 to 70 wind turbines.
The mills can be as high as 440 ft. above the ocean surface. Each ‘blade’ of the three-pronged mill is 144 ft long!
How much power will that generate for Delaware?
The Farm should generate 605,000 MW/h of power annually (200 MW)
When will electricity generation begin?
2012
How long is the Wind Mill Park going to be operational?
The Agreement between Delmarva Power and BlueWater is for 25-years
Who is obligated to pay for this, and how much will it cost?
Delmarva customers will be charged. On average, it will cost an additional $5 dollars a month, per household, for the 25-year project. The cost of the project is $800 million.
Are there any effects on the environment?
Wind Farms do not emit any waste into the air, and do not discharge any water into the ocean from their operations. An impact study will be required for the Federal Mineral Management Service to measure the impact the mills will have on the migration of certain birds and fish.
Is there any chance the farm will not be built?
It is possible. The Agreement allows BlueWater to opt-out of the contract if they do not find additional purchasers for the electricity produced. This is required so the economics of the project are sound for BlueWater.
